PM me with your e-mail address, and I will send you the detailed instructions from the shop manual. They are a bit of an overkill, but you may find them useful.

I did it for the first time, and it was a piece of cake.

No problem. I just changed mine for the first time , and here's how it went:

Open the yellow drain valve.

Crack the cannister lid (1 1/8" socket) to let air in, let it drain for a few minutes.

Finish removing the lid with filter attached.

Stare at it for a little while, then pull the filter off the lid. Take off the O-ring.

Put the new filter on the lid, new o-ring in the groove on the lid.

Wipe out the inside of the cannister.

Put the lid (with filter attached) back in the cannister and tighten.

Shut the drain valve.

Bump the starter for a second (don't let it start), release the key to the 'on' position and listen to the electric pump fill the cannister. When it shuts off, you're done.

Piece of cake. Not even a one-beer job.

This may seem like a stupid question..

what do you do with the fuel you drained out of the filter housing?

Back in the tank? In your waste oil bin?

In my Furnace along with the oil out of my truck.

Many places with a used oil receptacle like NAPA etc will take it also..

I skipped shutting the drain valve and went straight to bumping the starter. Luckily my 11 year old was there to tell me something didn't look right.

Minor point but one that could stop you in your tracks - socket should be a 6 point - available at Sears. Haven't tried any others, but came across this in another thread. Oh yeah - the top is plastic and breaks easily so do use the socket. Don't be surprised if the filter looks real black when you pull it out....

I didn't have a six-point. The twelve-point socket worked fine; that plastic cover (at least mine) wasn't all that tight, nor did I put it back on very tight. My filter element was dark (not black) but I think this is just the fact that it's paper saturated with fuel oil. There was no noticeable dirt at all on it and looked to me like it could have gone a lot further.

My drained diesel was put to use killing weeds.

I changed mine today at 10,667 miles and the thing was jet black... is that normal? I don't pull anything and she mostly sees highway miles 75% of the time and very very minimal off road. is Florida diesel dirtier than other places/states?

Thanks jamie
