Fuel Additives?

Fuel Additives?

Are any of you using fuel additives? And if so, which additives and for what reason?

I had a couple of old 6.9 naturally-aspirated Fords (1984 and 1986 models) that I routinely ran Diesel Kleen in, mainly for the lubricating properties for the old mechanical injector pumps and injectors, as well as an additive for cold weather and an algaecide. These Cummins are new beasts to me. Thoughts and experiences?

Thanks,

Bob

I only run two ..... FPPF and Power Service. Occasionally I'll use a little TCW-3 two stroke oil to quiet down the rattle on my '06, but that's all I'll use.

I used to mix the power service grey bottle with like four ounces of Marvel mystery oil in my 04.5. But I'll never do that with this truck. I think that it would probably cause more soot. Power service alone may not.

I use Howe's winter additive for winter time use only. I add this when the Ambient temp is 10F or below. I have used it for three seasons now.

I have been putting AMSoil cetane improver and thier Diesel fuel conditioner into my girlfriend's diesel Jeep Liberty for the last few weeks and it has picked up about 2 mpg, also doesn't put out a fog bank when I punch the throttle on the weekend. She drives it very conservitavly during the week and the turbo gets gooked up with soot. Give it a quick, hard run through the gears once a week and the VGT turbo runs the full range and knocks the soot loose. I have heard people say that they have been told to NOT run Power Service but the AMSoil diesel fuel conditioner is ashless and is supposed to work in all diesels with DPF's. We don't run Power Service in the Jeep any more due to her EGR valve getting gooked up.

I wasn't sure about whether the power service would create more smoke. But the days of using MMO are over. I used the combo of PS/MMO for the 04.5truck which had the problematic external lift pump. I never had the problems using the extra lubrication. I'm looking for something that might lower smoke levels if there is a such thing. But it seems lucas might worth trying. I like their stuff.
