Free Wheel Kit Install Article

I just finished writing a quick article on my web site about installing the EMS Off Road Free Wheeling Kit on my 2006 4X4 2500 Dodge Diesel.

Hope you enjoy it!

This might be a strange set of questions, but here goes. What did you do to center the hole saw on the hub cap when you cut them? Secondly, did you drill from the outside in or inside out. My concerns are centering the hole and tearing up the plastic as it cuts.

My conversion (Solid Steel, ems wasn't aval at the time) is done and I just have to cut holes in the caps.

Mike

P.S. Nice write up on the link you posted.

Hi Mike,

I used a protractor to find the center of the hub cap. I measured off the rim.

Then I put the Hub Cap in my drill press and simply cut a hole. A piece of sandpaper smoothed out the cut after.

If I recall it was easy to find the center because of the cap's design on the back. First a hole saw, then a little hand work to debur and fit.

By the way, I now have Dynatrac hubs that are about half the thickness of the Warn hubs. With 285/70s on H2 wheels the hubs stick out only 1/4 inch beyond the tire. The pictures are with 285/75s.

I used the Dynatrac kit but I went with the Warn hubs as at the time they had a chrome peeling problem with the dynatrac hubs and someone on this site had a problem with locking the dynatrac hubs. As Raspy said on the back side of the hubcap you can see the centre. I drilled a pilot hole through the mold mark and used a hole saw just under the size of the hub and finished it with a sanding drum in a drill press. Ain't they the best thing for backing up a trailer in close quarters or up hill .
