It's been about three years, but I don't think that would be a real option for a shade-tree mechanic. IIRC, it really wasn't that difficult to pull the oil cooler. The water jacket in the cooler held almost everything I needed to fish out in the end, and pulling it was probably the only real option. They were in the bottom of the cooler.
