Im going to be changing the fluids in my dads truck as well as mine and know that I will need 16qts of tanny fluid per truck but, need the know the fluid capacities of the diffs. Mine has the 10.5" rear and my dads is the 11.5". Also, we both tow quit a bit, nothing over 10k lbs....should I use 75w90 in the rear or 75w140? TIA

 

A good resource even if you don't buy from them is www.amsoil.com THey have a product application guide where you put in the make of your truck and it spits out everything you could possibly want to know about capacities.

For the 06

Rear Diff takes 4
Front Diff I belive is 3
Transfer case 2
12 quarts of engine oil on both.
I have amanual trans so no help to you there.

 

10.5" rear end capacity is listed at 4.75 pints.

11.5" rear is listed at 7.65 pints.

I've been running 75-140 in mine, but I tow a bit more than that and the climate can be quite hot here.

 

Oh yea, some say to not adjust the bands and some say do. In the maint. book it says to. I found how to do it on my 47re but, is it the same for the 48re?

 

I just did the diffs on my 03 with the 11.5 last week.

Front takes about 2.75 or so quarts

Rear takes about 3.75

According my sources, do not fill more then 1/4" below the filler hole. Have no idea why.

I used Amsoil Long Life 75W90

 

There was a big honkin thread back when the 03's came out about a dealership memo about fluid levels in axles.

I think the front was supposed to be 1/4" below the fill hole +/- 1/4", and the rear was to be 3/4" below the fill hole to reduce the chance of blown oil seals.

Later trucks have "oil level" and a line samped on the back cover, and the line looks to be about 3/4" below the bottom of the fill hole.
