Fleetguard 19579 changed?

Hi everyone,

Experienced something odd the other day which may have already been discussed but here goes-

I wet to my local cummins/international dealer to get fuel and oil filters for my 05'. When the guy brought out the fuel filters they were not in a box as before but shrink wrap plastic, no big deal just figured fleetguard changed packaging. However when I looked at the filters I noticed they looked like standard 10-20 micron paper filters and not the normal stratapore media you see. They said 19579E on the filter but not stratapore anywhere on them as before. I told the guy I wanted the stratapore 19579. He rudely (as usual) said they were stratapores and thats all they had ever carried. I told him unless fleetguard changed them these were not the same filters as before.
Told him never mind on the fuel filters and just took my oil filters.
I remembered seeing Fleetguard filters for Dodge p/u's at my local Case tractor dealership so I swung by there. They had two 19579's in boxes on the shelf, opened them up, yep these were the right ones. Noticed they had some cases of them on the shelf. Opened one of the cases and lo and behold they were the same paper filters that I saw at the cummins dealership. The tag on the case said 19579 'E'. Took both to the counter and showed the gentleman who worked there both filters. He looked at them and agreed completely that they had very different media, the stratapore media was more dense and appeared synthetic as stratopore's do. He said the cases he had just gotten in and the two left in boxes were from a prior shipment. He looked on his computer and sure enough there was two 19579's listed, one with an E on the end. His cost was the same for both. He said he had always ordered by the number (19579) and recieved stratapores. He knew what Stratapore were, he didn't know these were different until I showed him as he had not opened the cases yet.
So is there two different Fleetguard 19579 fuel filters or has Fleetguard changed the media and design? I thought the non-stratapore had a different number.
As I said these with the "E" on the end appear to be standard paper 10-20 micron filters like you'd get at the auto parts store, and they don't say Stratapore anywhere on them.

I could be wrong but I am pretty sure Fleetguard changed the filters again and the new ones are indeed the "E" filters you saw.

I just checked Geno's website and there is an even different number listeed again...maybe it has changed again since the last change from the previous change??? I'm confused now!

I jsut checked Cummins Website for Fleetguard filter numbers and found another number yet. The number according to their catalogue is FS19800E.

Fleetguard Fuel Filter FS19800E

I checked my filters in the garage and they are the same number...so I am not sure what the numbers at Geno's are for...Still confused but at this point I will trust Fleetguards catalouge since it is the same as the stock in my garage. I believe the FS19800E filters are also the newer 7 Micron filters....

Ok after cross referencing the number from Geno's it appears the Geno's premium filter is the ULSD replacement for the FS19800E.

So now I will assume that the FS19856 filter is the one we should be using but am not 100% sure.

So are my 19579 filters filters which I've been using all along not 7 micron filters? They say Stratapore right on the filter. I thought Stratapores were Fleetguards top of the line. Should I have been using 19800E all this time or were they the new # for FS19579. And now they call for FS19856??!!!
Good Grief !!!!
I also buy filters for two farm tractors and a dozer, I'm glad they don't change their numbers this much or I'd pull my d@&n hair out!

I will say the FS19856 media looks more like the older FS19579 I've been using since my truck was new then the FS19579"E" I mentioned earlier.

Well, according to Geno's my filter I've been using for 2 yrs is a 10 micron even though they say "Stratapore". I guess in 05' the 10 micron was the top of the line.

I can't figure out why they keep changing the numbers last year, so I started using Baldwin PF7977, 5 micron.

The FS19579 is the old style 10 micron filter, yes they changed the design last year, the FS18000E is the filter called for in the 06 and up trucks, its a 7 micron rather than the 10micron. Dodge spec'd 10microns so they wouldnt have to upgrade the liftpump and thats what Fleetguard made. Last year Dodge decided to go to 7 microns and that why the different number.

The FS19800E has been superceded by a new 7-micron filter. It may be the FS19856 but I don't know. I have it written down in my truck and will check tomorrow.

About to go with the Wix 7 micron. Yes, they make a 7 nom. micron filter. It has XE on the end of the number. My local parts store carries them, and I won't have to jack with Fleetguard number changes every single year (I hope). They cost a little more than Fleetguards but if I buy a half dozen he will let me have them for what I've been paying for Fleetguards.
I will continue to Fleetguard Stratapores for my oil filter however.

A money saving tip on oil filters for those who buy from Geno's. Buy the LF3894 for $9.95 rather than the LF16035 for $11.95. They are exactly the same Stratopore filter. The only difference is the flutes pressed into the can's end. If you use a band filter wrench, you don't use the flutes anyway.
