First Time Fuel Filter Change - Questions

Just changed fuel filter for first time @ 16,000 miles. Drained the bowl, then changed filter. Bumped starter three times, but never heard lift pump come on. Listened hard, but never heard it. Cranked engine & it started right away, so lift pump must be working. Are these pumps so quiet that you can't hear them?

Is your lift pump mounted on the engine? You should be able to hear it running if its on the engine.
I have heard that they moved the pump into the fuel tank on the latest trucks. That would make it quieter.

I hear mine when I change the fuel filter. Have done it several times without a problem.
