A few questions

Ok I am looking into getting a diesel and have been doing a lot of research. I have found a lot of great info on here and it has been very helpful. I just have a few questions. I know I am going to get an 03-06 quad cab 6 spd. Now am I right to say that the 04.5 and newer have the 600 series motor? What are the major differences between the 03-04.5 other than hp and tq? Also I know that the 03 and newer trucks run a cp3 injection pump why are so many people modding them and going duals? I basically just want a truck that smokes when I want it to with a little get up and go. I figure gauges are the first thing to get, then exhaust, bhaf, intake, some type of fueling box and a chip, also I know eventually I will need a better clutch. Also I hear about people stacking chips what is a good, safe setup to run and get the most power out of the truck? Sorry for the book i just want to be as educated as I can before I buy one. Thanks a lot!

When its time for my next truck I'll be getting an 05. I love my 03, but the horses are a little easier to get initially with the 05. One great thing about my current truck is the mileage. Newer rigs dont hold a candle to the 03-04 in that department.

i think the difference in the 03/04 and the 04.5 up 5.9 is mostly in the ecm. the turbo on th e04.5 and up is electronic wastegate. the "older" version you can put a boost elbow and pick up the power quite a bit. yes the newer ones are 325 hp 600 torque with the optional 610 torque. the early production 03's have a 47re trans which isn't rated for the higher torque without modding them www.goerend.com

we are happier with our 05 325/610 motor than the '03

make sure you check out the megacab before you buy. i wish it was available when i bought mine. not to say i don't like it. i love it but more room in the back would be nice with little kids.

if you plan on towing a fifthwheel, check out pullrite.com very nice slider hitch for the shortbeds

Yes that is a fueling box. A downloader or programmer changes the ECM settings. A fueling box intercepts and changes the signal from the ECM before it gets to the motor. Examples of programmer/downloader would be Bully Dog or Smarty. Hope this helps
