Good point. All the more reason to put it on a DRB.It gets expensive just throwing parts at it blindly or as we called it in the Navy shotgunning!

Its your money.Sounds alot like an fca but with these electronic engines theres alot of possibilities.Ask what they would charge for 1/2 hr with a DRB(or like tool) to check command RP vs actual RP.My local dealer only charged me for the time it took to test(1/2 hr, 1/2 the shop hourly rate).

well if it was used, there is no guarantee that the sensor was any good in the used one either. Get it on a scanner, otherwise you will just be frustrated and wasting money on parts it doesn't need.

A good snap-on or MAC scanner can read command vs actual RP also, so you might find an independent that can help for less $

Just had my FCA replaced under warranty. I dont know if they SHOULD have replaced it under warranty or not, truck has 47k on it. Maybe it is part of the 100k warranty. Anyway, they said it was $217 bucks. Wow. What a rip. Local Cummins store sells it for $103.

Friend of mine had a bad FCA on his truck. He didn't know thats what was wrong. He added a bottle of power service(whole bottle)it cleared up and ran fine. Then no Power Service.Ran poor. Then Howes.Same deal. Then Marvel Mystery oil.Same deal. Then a tech told me STAR(engineering) said to add a fuel lube or 2 stoke ashless oil to diagnosis a bad FCA.Only additive that did not do anything in my friends truck was LUCAS additive. When NOT adding the fuel lube problem would return in the next tank of fuel etc.His truck on cold start ran very uneven and on hot restart would stall at low speeds, chug, surge etc.He thought bad injectors or? It is part of the Engine/fuel system warranty.

just got it back last night from a diesel mechaic. it was not the FCA. This is what he done to it. done all the scans, checked all the flow rates and everything good. lift pump, injector pump and injectors. he found air in the injector return test. he checked the jumper tubes and found the first was a little loose. he then checked them all and all but one was not tight to tourque specs. put them back to the way they are suppose to be and the problem gone. makes since to me . when cold it was not leting air to seep by, as it warmed up it got worse as the meatal expanded. i guess it let just aenough air to seep in to cause all this trouble and to **** me off for a a month or two trying to find this.

Might also check the relief valve, I *think you just take the banjo bolt out and see if fuel is getting past the valve, might be a bad valve thats bleeding off fuel, and you can just cap it(drill/tap 1/8" npt? I believe)
part number is 5183245-AA I believe....
