Fan Fell Off

While driving to my next job yesterday, I lost my power steering and brakes while going around a corner on a busy back road. After getting the truck and trailer stopped safely I got out to find my fan leaning against the radiator (52,000). Had it towed in to the dealer at my cost. Apparently the idler bearing seized up, destroying the hub, serpentine belt, one of the fan fins, crank sensor. Its a shame that was Rokk Tech sensor. Dealer says they will have the truck back together tommorow, but are fighting with Chrysler to pay for all damages minus the $100 deductible. Chrysler only wants to cover the bearing that failed not what it screwed up when it failed. Hopefully the dealer will come through for me. Well hopefully it will be back to new tommorow, as this is the first time the truck left me sitting.

Is the idler bearing the same as the second Gen's? I remember the idler bearing in the 2nd Gens had plastic bearing? I know someone made an upgrade of some sort to metal bearings.

If the bearing was the primary failure, and all that other stuff was the result, then it would all be covered under warranty if it were in my shop. I just did a fan drive hub warranty today where the fan blade hit the radiator and punched a hole in it. The radiator was out of the standard truck waranty, but the failed drive hub was in warranty. Since the hub failed and caused damage to the radiator it was covered under warranty. Contingent Damage I belive its called?

That sucks!
So, say the oil pump went out and wiped out all your bearings. Would they try to say they were only going to replace the oil pump?? Sounds crazy to me that they wouldn't want to cover the whole repair less your deductable....

Got the truck back today, minus the $100 deductible. Service manager says he had to fight with Chrysler to cover it though. Only problem is the check engine light came on on the way home and I picked it up at closing. I am going to check the code list to determine what they are and try and clear them with a snap on tool ( service department not open till Monday).
