Extended Warranty

I know that to most people, this issue is a roll of the dice, with most opting to bank the money and take a chance on not having a major repair.

I on the other hand, feel like it is money spent for my peace of mind. I bought my first diesel, an '03 2500 CTD, 4x4 quad cab SWB a little over a month ago and am happy as could be with it.

I have already decided that that extended warranty is something I am going to purchase, even though the truck has 28k on it right now. These warranties have to be purchased while the truck is under 30k for the quotes I have recieved.

Does anyone have any experience with the following companies, good or bad?

DIRECT VEHICLE SERVICE CONTRACTS: $1550. policy until 2010 or 100k miles, $100 deductible per repair, w/towing, rental car.

CONTINUOUS CUSTOMER REPAIR: (through the GMC/Buick dealership I bought the truck from) $1610. for 6 yrs/100k miles, $100. deductible per repair, w/towing, rental car.........OR........$1910. for 7yrs/100k miles, $100. deductible per repair, w/towing, rental car

CHRYSLER EXTENDED WARRANTY: (through the local Dodge dealership), $1950. for 7yrs/100k miles, $100. deductible per repair, w/towing, rental car.

Thanks alot,
Rick

Personally go with the DC extended warranty. Yes they may cost alittle more but I have had nothing but experience with them. There is no 1800 # to call. If it's broke they will fix it no matter where you are at. All they have to do is access the DC computer with your VIN and then they change their tune and fix it.
As far as the other companies I have heard horror stories where they have gone out of business or they require you to go to a SPECIAL dealer, or even worse you have to get permission from them to do the work, pay for it your self and then send them the paper work to get reimbursed Why have the extended warranty then. If I had the money in the first place then I would NOT have bought the extended coverage
I have the DC warranty and have had it on of my DC vehichles and think it's well worth it.

I thought all the dodges from 01 and up came with the 7/70k for the drivetrain, and 100k for the cummins.

From what I know, the 7/100k is just kind of something that looks appealing to the buyer. As I understand, the 7/100k applies only to the engine, transmission, differentials and transfer case to cover only "Internally lubricated" parts failure.

My thoughts on spending the extra money for the extended warranty, is that $100.00 out of pocket is pretty cheap considering the fact that injectors, starters, turbos and such are very $$$$ if they fail when they aren't included in the standard 7/100k.

Like I stated, it's just a huge roll of the dice that I would feel better with having than not. Also, should you trade off the vehicle that has the extended warranty, at a pro-rated price, the warranty is returned to you in cash.

I traded an '02 Z71 in for the Dodge I have now. I purchased the extended warranty with it when purchased new for $1500. When I traded it off, I cancelled the warranty and recieved a check for almost $1000. in the mail which is being applied toward this trucks warranty.

I work at the dealer and contracted my 01 as long as possible. Doesn't take but one hit to pay for it. I bought a DC contract and from a service standpoint they are by far the easiest ones to deal with. Alot of aftermarket contracts seem to mire you down in the paperwork, make the customer pay teardown and then have to send an "adjuster" out to inspect. Shop around for the DC contract, the prices are negotiable.

I paid $1400.00 for the everything DC extended warranty, the works.

I need to go get my money back, one look at, or under my truck, I'm finished warranty wise. I just became my own warranty station.

my .02

motor 7 years or 100k so it is already covered

powertrain 7/70 then it gets bumped up to 7/100

I think the dodge waranty is like 3k. they have cheaper ones but the prinicple is still the same.

now in my case it it the years not the milage that instanly ruled it out for me. I don't plan on putting over 10k a year on the truck. so if my tranny does not die inside of seven years I would be losing money. it is not like they bump it up to 10 years or I would have considered it.

the only way the contract if worth it at all is if you roach your tranny. The will tell you how much the electonics cost but 7 years from now you will be able to pick it up at the boneyard economicly. it is not going to cost to much for a new computer.

to me you might as well take the 3k invest it and then if you need it you need it if not you are not paying for nothing.

Lets put it all in perspective the dealer ships would not put waranties if they were not big money makers that means that the majority of the time they do not get used that is fact. If ever truck had to have big waranty work the companies would go out of business. most people do not keep the vehicles long enough.

you would definatly have to keep the truck to the 100k mark for this to be any value at all.

so if you own an automatic truck that you will put more than 100k on in less that seven years then it is not a horrible investent but you are still basically finacing you tranny repair into you initial loan and paying 6 years of intrest on it.

2K is a lot of dough for the extra bumper to bumper protection. You have 7/100 on the powertrain with a 100 dollar deductible already. If you have every option on the truck and have bad luck you might brake even with the extended coverage, personally I will shop the boneyard for the little troubles and give Dodge the 100 deductible for powertrain problems.

One piece of advice,...the DC warranty is not the same price for exactly the same coverage and policy at every dealer. Shop it around and you'll see. Myself, I'd call a rural dealer and put their bid in the mix b-4 you make a decision.

My extended warranty was $1400 from DC at dealer on purchase. The only thing I made out on.

And no, one compressor will not be $3000. The truck I am referring was a 96 Chevy. The Compressor case cracked at 41,000 miles, dealer repair was $1,250.

There are major repairs that can add up fast.
