Exhaust leak problem ??

Hi guys,
I've been a member for a while now, but this is my first post.
I would like to start out saying this is an awesome site, it's very, very informative.
I've always been GM, so this is the first Dodge truck I have ever had .
Well anyway here is my question... my truck has a exhaust leak, it's an '04.
When it's sitting idleing, warming up or at a stop light you can smell exhaust. Today I crawled under it when it was running and can't find any leaks on the exhaust. Is there anyplace I should look....everything is stock on it.
Boy oh boy any help would be great...for some reason the wife doesn't care for the smell !!

Have you checked the exhaust manifold? I have read of a few of them cracking.

That, or the joints on the elbow on the turbo, or turbo to manifold...

Welcome to the forum.

Welcome to the site. I wonder if you have changed the oil lately? If so you may be smelling fumes coming from the crankcase vent tube. There have been lots of posts on this. I smell it every time I change my oil especially if you use Rotella T. It goes away after a few hundred miles.

Mine leaks at the manifold and it does the same thing. Wife hates the smell. It also keeps my max boost numbers lower. Mine leaks because i'm missing 1 of the layers in the multi layer gasket for one of the cylinders. Lost it when swappin turbos. Didn't think that just 1 layer would hurt much.

It is usually worse this time of year with colder temps. I bet you are smelling are the fumes from the blowby tube. There used to be tons of discussions about it on here. I think there were people finding some vent under the cowl that were missing rubber flaps or something. A lot of folks, me included, just added some 3/4 heater hose to the bottom of the tube and routed it back past the cab and tied it up. I never smelled it inside again after that. fast forward to just yesterday and my wife said "wow what is that smell", I had pulled that tube off a few months ago for some reason and now I have the smell again.
