I don't have first hand experience but I researched exhaust brakes for my 2004.5 a long time ago. Starting with the 2006 models they offered a factory or dealer installed option for an ebrake. Supposedly, there is a thrust washer on earlier model years that is prone to damage. Also, I believe there are electronic enhancements in 2006+ models to support an ebrake that don't exist in the earlier model years. But, I believe the 3rd party mfrs provide something to handle that in pre-2006 trucks. It has been awhile and things may have changed, so I recommend you continue doing your research.

It would help if you put your truck info in your signature. Assuming you have a 2006 or later, then you are probably fine. If not, find out if your thrust washer might be at risk.
