Exhaust ?
Exhaust ?
I have been reading posts on exhausts until I am blue in the face
. I was looking for a free flowing exhaust to keep egt's low while towing, and decided on the Rokktech with a 4" turbo back. I stopped by an exhaust shop that the dealer uses to get a price. The truck is going to remain stock, and I pull tandem trailers around 12K. The exhaust place said that I wouldn't really see any difference in egt's going from a 3.5" to a 4" with a stock engine, it would just be louder. I was amazed that he basically told me to keep my stock exhaust
. Any thoughts on this, I am new to the diesel world, but if going to a 4" isn't really going to have a measurable effect on egt's, I see no sense in changing the exhaust

I heard stock exhaust is best from one muffler shop. They said any larger will cause turbulence. Well, I’m going with a 4” muffler for starters. Later on, I'll have a complete 4" or 5" system.
I took my stock exhaust off of my 05 which was 4" and put a dual 5" system... Oh yeah it was definately louder, got more turbo whistle deeper and throatier but most of all it dropped me egt's 150!!!!! He!!! yeah that's what I wanted.. But then a month later I traded it in on a mega-cab.. Now I am thinking of doing a single 5" with the kat and rokktech muffler...
Do it you'll love it.. You should be able to do it yourself also..I put my whole 5" system on all by myself in just over an hour and a half.. If you have ??? PM Me and I'll help out as much as possible.

That's what I was thinking a 4" would do for me, lower egt's 100 - 150? I tow a lot in the summer, and ambient temps are 110 and above, so any reduction would help. I was primarily checking to see how much to get hangars welded on the rokktech, and see if I could find a used 4" somewhere. They didn't have any, but I'll look around town, shouldn't be to hard to find and should be a lot cheaper than an aftermarket exhaust.
If you live in MD yoiu can bring it over and me and some of the other DTR members will gladly help you put it on. I have a lift and it makes it really easy.

I am in San Diego, CA and have seen and heard exhausts on diesels and gassers out here that sound like NASCARs and could not POSSIBLY be legal...so I said the heck with it, jumped on the band wagon and bought a Silverline 4" turbo back and am currently running it with NO cat and I couldn't be happier...it sounds GREAT, runs cooler and my cool down times are literally a third of what they used to be on the stock exhaust system. I know that when I was installing the Silverline, 45 minutes into getting the OEM junk off, I was still burning my hands on the cat and a little on the muffler...15-20 minutes after turning the ignition off, it's safe to touch the muffler on the Silverline. On top of all the above goodness, I can feel a very noticeable gain in my throttle response and acceleration...just off my intake and exhaust...I think that it was VERY worth the $603 (595 for exhaust and 8 bucks for two hours at the auto hobby shop so I could install)...now if I could figure out this brand new tranny indicator lamp problem, I would be grinning ear to ear! Hey, I appreciate the offer. Did you do a cat back exhaust, as I will need the 4" turbo piece as well, and perhaps a cat delete piece? Let me know what you want for it and what you think shipping would be. I don't need the stock muffler, so that should make it a little easier to ship.
