I have an 06 CTD Mega Cab with the Auto and 3:73's and it is all stock. Truck has 1700 miles on it now.

My question: Even since new I have notice that when it is cold out and the truck is cold that I have a relatively loud whine that runs about in parallel with how the turbo spools. I originally thought it might be the driveline owl that has been talked about on here, but the noise only occurs when the turbo is spooled and like I said... it seems to fall off as the turbo spools down. About ten minutes of driving easy (and when the temp gauge just starts to rise) the sound goes away for the rest of the day. So is this the turbo making noise because it is cold or something else?

Check the clamps on you charge-air cooler. Loose clamps or a pinhole in one of the hoses will do that, but only under boost.
