Is excess idling making my truck die while driving?
I live in Alaska and I don't have a garage. Needless to say my truck spends a lot of time idling. My truck has stalled a couple times while driving down the road, but it always comes right back to life...today it died completely. I have a half of tank of gas, so I'm not worried there. I thought I'd heard somewhere that on these new diesels its not good to let them idle for a long time b/c it will clog up the injector heads. If this is true can I just buy some injector cleaner to put in when I fuel up or do I possibly have a bigger problem? It is pretty cold outside...we're talking -20 to -50 this last week, so I'm hoping too that this is just a side effect of the extreme cold. Any advice out there b/c I'm not the most knowledgable about this subject. Thanks.
My truck: '05 2500 4x4 CTD with a winter front currently installed.

add some power service additive to each fill up. That should help. The white jugs have anti gel in them and the silver ones dont. I run the silver jugs year round. Where its minus 50 up there you might try the white jugs. THey are available at walmart. Hope that helps. I used to live up there and had more vehicle issues in 4 years than Ive had anywhere else in my life I cant see that the injectors would clog while driving down the road but I dunno Where are you buying the fuel up there?
