Is it ever too late?
Hey guys. I just wanted to hear some of your thoughts on this. I get asked a lot from people about towing with thier cummins. The question that they always ask me is, "is it ever too late to really start towing?" What they mean is. If they buy a cummins that has 20k, 50k, 100k or even 200k and NEVER been hooked to a trailor, what is going to happen to the internals of that truck that has been used for city or highway driving and then hooked to a 30k pound trailor dragging it up hills. Is it going to go through its break in period? Should you change the oil right after its first hard tow? Has the motor broke in to a lazy life and wont be able to handle the 30k trailor after 200k of highway? What are your thoughts?

Need to change your weight statement. 30K trailer is way more than you want to pull. That would be a dual tandem trailer with two large farm tractors on it. Even a manual truck with 4.10 gears is gonna be hurting. Not to mention DOT catching up with you. I tagged my truck for 25,000 total and have probablly pulled a CVW of 30-35K a couple times. I was overloaded.
As far as starting towing, make sure maintaince is up to date with SYN oil in diff, good brakes, good tires, good hitch, and good trailer brakes and controller. Proper wiring is essential.

30k GVW. Truck included. These farmers in Miles City pull more than that. LOL. Believe me. Besides brakes, trailor, tires, hitches....... I am talking about that Cummins Motor itself. I have heard ***** stories from unhappy people that buy a city/highway driven cummins who start hauling with it and have mechanical problems right out the gate.

I mean they have problems with the ones they are buying that have 150k or so and never been towed with. Its like it seems to be critical that the cummins in broke in RIGHT within the first 50k or so, or it will never be able to tow in the future like it should. That is what I am wondering.
