Engine Won't Crank (intermittent)

I've been having this problem off and on for quite a while now. It isn't as frequent as it used to be, nor as severe when it does occur, but it is still somewhat annoying.

Basically, I'll get in and try to crank it up, and nothing will happen. And by nothing, I mean nothing, no cranking at all. But if I turn the ignition back to the off position, then back to On and let it sit there for a while, eventually I'll be able to crank it up and go with no further problems.

Some days it will only happen the first time I start up that day. Other days it will start up fine the first time but then refuse to crank every other time. Or some combination of the above.

Sometimes I have to sit there with key in the On position for only 30 seconds before it will start up, on other occasions it's taken up to 20 minutes before it will crank. Then there are the rare occasions where the first time I go from On to Start nothing happens, go back to on, then right back to Start and the old girl starts right up.

So, a very intermittent problem with no real pattern, except for the fact that sometimes I can't crank it at all.

Any ideas? Both dealerships I've taken it to can't find any codes, and thanks to it being an intermittent problem, it never happens when I have it in the shop...

Thoughts?

I had the exact same problem that you are describing.
My problem was caused by the starter solenoid wire shorting.
There is a wire bundle that goes to the starter. As it passes under the fuel filter housing bracket, the small lime green starter wire rubs on the bracket and gets a small cut. It's real hard to see and real tight in there, but if you remove the drivers front wheel and get in there with a light you should be able to see it. Follow the wire back from the starter and right below the bracket for the fuel filter housing, feel the small green wire for the slightest cut. If it has a cut, turn the wire bundle so it doesn't rub anymore, and put some sealant on it.
Hope this helps
