Engine making noise

Sometimes my CTD 04 makes more noise when starting off or not up totemp. What is this noise and what causes it. I do not recall it doing this in the cold 40-50 degree winter we have in bama. I know there is a name for what it is doing but need help. Should I take it to the dealer?? About 11k mile on engine. Local dealer really sucks here in Montgomery. First time I took it in for oil change at 7500 miles he ridiculed me saying I was going to ruin the engine. I showed him the users manual and he commented "You invested a lot of money I would disreguard the manual and change every 3000 miles" is he an IDIOT or am I. I have only towed about 800 miles total on this truck so it is never really loaded down.

Is it a roaring noise or a clattering noise?

Your local dealer is trying to make money on unneccesary oil changes. Not sure if that makes him an idiot, but it definitely makes him less than honest.

it's a roaring noise. I think it did this during winter but this is summer here and temps have been in the 80's and 90's. Thanks

The noise is "fan roar". The computer controls the fan. Fan operation is affected by engine temp, air temp, road speed, and A/C pressure. It's likely normal operation.

wannadiesel is 100 percent right, you are hearing the rather large fan doing it's job

But it does it as I am leaving the house first thing in the morning, this is what I don't understand. And if I let off the pedal it seems to slow

The fan may engage when the engine is cold, just to pull air through the AC condenser...
