engine died

Today while driving about 35mph the engine just quit. I pulled to the side of the road and after several trys the engine started and ran normal. I made a stop and had a devil of a time getting it started again, it would start and die. After it finally started I drove home at normal speeds and it ran fine. Checked the code and it is P0628. I read some posts on that code and most said it was the lift pump. If is is the lift pump why would it finally start and run normal? Thanks for any suggestions.

Sometimes the lift pump will get hot and seize. Cools down a little and it will run again. For how long? No one really knows, but I would make plans for a new one quick!

Well, that didn't work.

I have early 2004 4wd 2500, with a Edge/Attitude and Scotty III air cleaner.

I haven't tried removing the Edge yet, could that be the problem?

Could be, but doubtful with the lift pump code. Edge doesn't affect that at all I'm pretty sure.

My truck ran for a while with the lift pump dead. If the pump quits in the right position fuel will still pulll through it.
