Engine De-Fueling Question
Engine De-Fueling Question
Does the ECM de-fuel the Cummins engine on trucks equipped with 6 speed (NV5600) transmissions? My GM buddy says that 5th gear is the only gear that gets full power because it is direct.
My thought is that the transmission is a box or gears and the only thing it knows is that is if it in reverse or neutral.
Any confirmation to this ?
Thanks

all electronic control diesel engines defuel, but what are the paramaters where the defueling takes place. the ecm has no clue what gear you are in other than if it calculates engine speed vs road speed. if the trans is in reverse, and your switch for backup lights is out, the ecm will not know you are in reverse or 1st [i don't think even the ecm is tied into the tranmission reverse switch]..
the engine will defuel when it starts to get close to the governed rpm. i think it also defuels when it gets to the vehicle speed limitor//
