Vin is burned into computer, also vehicle theft or non vehicle theft will cause problem with SKIM module if equipped with vehicle theft. Black ignition key is non skim, gray key is with vehicle theft.
Im not concerned with that. my 03 CTD blew has no drivetrain but the engine is good. I think someone is lying to me as I cannot find info on this. Im more concerned about whether or not the 03 computer from an SO engine will work in place of the computer in an 04 HO engine. The VIN and keys the person would get taken care of at his expense, I just want to know if im being misled or not.
If you are talking about just replacing the engine in the 03' with a newer 04' HO engine. Yes it will work fine as long as it is not a 04.5 325/600 engine. You can also use that engine but you will need to use a Smarty/UDC to for tuning. I wouldn't recommend it.
You have to specify which 2004 Dodge Ram Cummins.
Dodge had several different Cummins engines in 2004. Possibly a 250HP SO, a 305HP HO, a 325HP HO and possibly a California engine.
At least 2 different ECU's were used also, plus other changes to the trucks mid-year.
