Embarrassed-- need a converter or what?

I had to pull a little Mazda truck out of a guys front yard today and got a little embarrassed. There was a small ditch at the edge of the yard that I had to cross to get to the guy. I was in reverse in 2WD without a doubt that it would roll thru with ease. To my embarrassment I had to lock it into 4HI to get out. But thats not the biggy.

I had to rev the engine to get it to move. No, not just a little tap on the pedal. And keep in mind this is a small ditch-- the little 2WD Mazda didnt even hit the bumper when I pulled him thru it. I had to stomp it and hold it for it to move. They kinda looked at me like my truck wasnt all it was cracked up to be.

So I had to lock it into 4LO to save time and embarrassment getting him out of there.

The converter shudders when engaged, It doesnt pull hard at all, and it seems slow as crap. It actually runs faster and pulls harder when I have the module set at stock. The truck revs strong, but thats about it, because it doesnt go anywhere strong anymore. Whats the deal?????????????????????

I'm guessing you smoked the converter with your 'module' turned up and your foot in the radiator.

Yeah, the foot in the radiator problem is often overlooked when diagnosing t/c slippage. Thanks for the reminder there, sport.

I agree it's that time to bite the bullet and buy some parts or a whole tranny.

TOO much, PM me. Dave G has a tranny with a triple disk converter and a guarantee for life for a lot less than that.

I agree to much. Mine was less than that with all of the Billet goodies, but it was self install.

I put my 315's back on it today. It pulls harder but it still doesnt want to shift right under medium/hard throttle. It just doesnt pull like it did. When I hook a load on it, it feels like mashed potatoes. The converter sounds like it is grinding metal to metal under deceleration.

Being that its under warranty and Im not prepared financially to buy a built tranny and converter, Im gonna take it to the dealer tommorrow and see what they'll do. I'll keep yall posted.

You got that right. Thats why I went ahead and put the 315's back on. It looks goofy to me with the lift, but I dont want them blaming my problem on the tires.
If they freshen it up and rebuild the tranny, I may go ahead and put a converter and valve body in it. It would be nice to run across a used bulletproof tranny for sale.

I ttok it to the dealer today. He test drove it with me in the truck. It was worse than it has ever been. Im glad too, because I only have a couple thousand left on warranty, so Im glad he didnt say "thats normal". They're getting me in on Monday.

Hopefully by next week I'll be good to go. I'll keep yall posted.
