Electronic 4wd transfer case

I am really wishing i would have gotten a manual transfer case. I have the manual t case on my 97 dodge and love it.

On my 05 cummins, i have the electronic transfer case and hate it. Sometimes it doesn't want to go in 4 low....and sometimes it doesn't engage or disengage as quick as it should.

Now, my SERV 4WD light is on. Dealer scanned it and it said 2wd circuit open, 4low circuit open, and 4high circuit open. Dealer said they didn't know what was wrong...come back next week. that answer didn't make me happy AT ALL. I've tried electric grease in the connections too....light still comes on. The green light under 2WD will start blinking then just not come on at all....

Whats your opinion? Am I alone with my complaints?

I was nervous about mine at first but now I really like it after using it a few times.
plus my wife hated pulling the manual lever style that I had in the 01.

I have not had any problems or complaints with mine.....but my truck only has 7,000 miles on it so what do I know!!

Same here, 53 ******. I always said REAL 4x4's have transfer case levers. But.....my new truck had the electric 'case and it actually works quite well. 93.000km and no issues so far.

Love mine, gave me another place to install 2 more adjustable cup holders. I did have a problem getting out of 4-lo once after pulling my boat up a very steep ramp. After getting on level ground I had to back up and pull forward half a dozen times to get it to disengage.

I've had no problems with mine at all. I use 4 low when I back up the fiver (the clutch tends to get hot in high range). When I sitched to Amsoil in my xfer case it seemed to help it engage/disengage faster.

I didn't want it at first. I'm used to manual transfer cases. But so far, so good!

mine has been excellent, I have over 100k km on it now, never a moment of grief, but I do use it alot, I think that is key, that way it keeps moving, I think that the mechanism can kinda freeze up if you dont use it often. I use mine for racing etc.

I have the manual transfer case but I dont like it, sometimes it doesnt go into 4hi very easily and then when I take it out of 4hi it stays in 4wd for a while before going to 2wd, anyone else with this experience?

I had the electronic in my Dakota and went 90k miles with no trouble and I used it quite a bit.

I have the manual in my 2500 and wish I had the electronic.

Same here but if I'd ordered the truck it wouldn't have one. I'd have put the money elsewhere.

I have always had manual transfer cases, this is my first electronic. So far it is operating well, I only have 12K on the truck, so it is really not a good observation. It is nice to just flip a switch vrs having to get out and lock hubs, etc. If a manual transfer case had been an option I would have ordered it, mostly out of habit I guess, since I have had no previous experience with the electronic ones and really did not want one. I know that on the 2006 models a manual transfer case was NOT an option, it seems that DC has decided for us. While I am expecting my truck to last me a long time, if for some reason it does not and I am looking at another new truck, and if this system gives me troubles, I guess DC will have taken themselves out of me purchasing a future truck from them. Time will tell about function, performance, and if I continue to appreciate the feature. So far, I do.

I didn't know it’s no longer an option. First it’s the auto hubs, now the electric transfer case. What’s next? Even though it’s electric, it looks pretty darn simple to fix. Or for that matter, convert to manual shift.

I believe CD is referring to the MegaCab model. You can still get the manual transfer case in the Regular and Extended cab models.

Electronic shift T cases are only required on certan models and trim levels. For example I was forced into it because I ordered a Laramie H. Had I wanted the J version I could have had a manual shift t-case, but then I couldn't get other things like the Infinity sound and a few other things. I wish they could offer everything a-la-carte, but that would probably be a logistics nightmare.
