Have it - Love it. in and out of 4-low will require a little stand-still with either transfer-case, but the electronic tc is super-smooth and from what I've seen pretty trouble-free.

It may just be the Mega Cabs, don't know. I have a SLT. It may also be controlled by packages, again I don't know. I just know that the manual transfer case was NOT an option. I have no complaints, like I said it IS nice not to have to get out, lock hubs, etc. I could get very spoiled with this, what am I saying - I am spoiled!!!

used to live in PA and the winter salt mixes wreaked havoc with the electronic controlled x-fer cases, that was the reason I always went manual. While we do get snow here in NM, our dot uses mostly sand on the roads, so I am in hopes they never go to a lot of salt in the mix and my electronic stuff will just remain as functional as it is now. I do like it, flipping the switch is effortless.

I know some people love it and thats great. My brother has it in his '07 and really likes it. When I got my truck I did not want it. I like the idea of a simple low maintenance way to activate 4WD. With my luck the actuator motor would give up just when I really need it. Not having it did limit the Laramie package to the lower of the two. I like the feel and ease of use with the '05 lever alot more than the '96.

Wouldn't it be easy to convert an electric switch to the manual shifter? Looks like a small motor on the side of the TC. I would think that maybe the shifter and linkage, then it would work.

stock03, I think you are right, it shouldn't be that hard. If the motor does fail there is a cover you can take off and put a wrench on the shaft to manually engage the case.

But I'm so spoiled with the electronic switch, that if it does go out, I'll pay whatever it takes to fix it. No more manual 4x4 for me!

They are nice. My old Explorer had it but the way my luck goes I'd be crawling under my truck in miserable winter weather on the side of the road with a suit on trying to get the darn thing in 4WD so I can get to my destination.
