Is an EGT and Pyro Gauge the same?

Bought my first diesel. Trying to understand the whole gauge thing. I see people referencing pyro gauges and egt gauges as if they were seperate gauges and others using the terms interchangably.

So is an EGT and Pyro gauge the same or are they different?

Thx,
Steven

Yes, they are the same. A "pyro" is a pyrometer which is a probe that is placed in the manifold to measure the temperature of the Exhaust Gas. EGT-refers to Exhaust Gas Temperature.

Means the same thing. Exuast Gas Temperature (EGT) is measured by a Pyrometer gauge.

Great. Thx for the info!

Next question, what is the normal operating range that I should see on this gauge? What's the max? Is there a upper limit an/or a spike limit?

My truck is a 2003 4x4 auto with exhaust and cold air intake. Will be adding a programmer or chip in the near future.
