Egr?

I have a general idea of what EGR does, as it relates to emmissions. i read here that the 2007 moter will have EGR. Why is this so bad? will it effect performance or is it just something else to clutter the engine compartment?

go take a dump, after you are done, take some and eat it... does it sound appealing to you? the engines like it just as much as you do... egr with external valves is absolutely MICKEY MOUSE... with modern technology, the external valving isn't necessary... camless engines can do it with programing [there should be mainstream diesels on the market in 07 with the camless technology], and it can also be done with programing with variable cam timing engines too...

I have had EGR on two diesels - it's no fun. In VW tdi's it contributes to an awful clogged intake problem. The sooty exhaust that's routed back into the intake to be burned again mixes with the oily crankcase ventilation vapors (which are also routed back into the intake) and it forms a hard black sludge. Within 50-60k the intakes flow air thru holes the size of dimes.. With today's computer controlled engines, it's also getting trickier to bypass the egr's as well - for off road use of course
