ECM Flash Recall

I made an appointment tomorrow at Austin's Covert Dodge so they could check my steering per the recall. They said on the phone that there is an older recall to reprogram the ECM. Is this a good thing to do? Will it affect my mileage or anything else? My truck runs perfectly and gets over 20mpg highway. I don't want it messed with. Advice please.

Tell them in no uncertain terms "No" and "Do not flash the ECM".

I like that. I actually had to cancel the appointment. On a separate note does anyone know how to look at the steering linkage to see if you fall under the recall? I'd rather avoid the dealer completely.

00Dog,

The simplest way to check is to look at your steering damper.

If it's connected to the tie rod tube by a bolt that goes through the tube, it's the older style linkage and is not being recalled.

If the damper is clamped to the side of the tie rod tube with a bracket, it's the newer (2008.5) style linkage that is being recalled.

so mr truckbouy.... perhaps in your worldly ways you could explain what he should probably look for to insure his steering linkage is in proper order.... I would, but I'm a "goon" with a wealth of knowledge, experience, and access to all the tools. Carry on....

For your 1st question about the dealer flashing your ECM, no one can answer this question accurately because you haven't provided enough information.

1. Is your truck stock? Do you have any interceptor type modules or is a programmer installed?

2. Does your 2007 truck have a 5.9L engine or a 6.7L engine? Both engines were available in model year 2007. You should update your signature to specify which engine you have.

Regarding your steering linkage, you are okay and not part of the recall.

Why the abrasive post? I agree you are a wealth of knowledge and a valued member. Just don't see anything posted or deleted to warrant your statement.

I wrote a few general comments that weren't quite flattering for the dealer individuals. I totally agree with his wealth of knowedge statement but every dealer through the years I've had dealings with are lacking the wisdom to apply that knowledge. So I edited the comment lest Madhat has me doing pushups till the ants recognize me. Sorry, I've since mended my evil ways.

I second. 00Dog, your steering linkage is not part of the recall. For future reference your truck has the old Ystyle steering linkage.

For further clarification I have included a side by side picture.

Left: Old Ystyle

Right: Upgraded Tstyle (this is the N62 recall linkage)
