Dually vs SRW

I've been reading posts for the last several months on the differences between DRW and SRW. Mostly drivers preferences. I have a itch to convert to a dually but need to get some specifics on the dually. The question I have is "What is the difference between the 2 besides the obvious fenders and wheels?" Are the axles different? Springs? Shocks? Brakes? Anti-Sway Bars? Thanks.

the axles are different the dually is a narrower version. there is also the obvious suspension difference. if you get the axle from another dodge of the same vintage the axle should be a direct bolt in. definitely upgrade to the one ton suspension, the extra leverage caused by the wider wheels will make the 3/4 ton suspension feel very soft in the corners

i just recently bought the new dually and i love it

handles better, i live in the mountains, it is much more stable than the srw, tows my 5th wheel better. barely even notices the 1700 tongue weight of my trailer

Make sure you get the same axle ratio as in the front.

The SRW axles are shorter; the DRW axles are longer.

maynard3, your right, the dually is wider.

and if you do go to a dually, i know they are great for towing and traction on pavement, but when you get them in the mud or snow they wont go anywhere. weve got 2 of em and we live in the hills of arkansas and if your not careful youll end up in the bottom of the holler before you know it.

I disagree about duallys in the mud. Mine is a beast in the mud. Depends on your setup. Mine has gone where 3 other SRW's got stuck. All of us had 35's, mine just had two extra one's getting traction.

Has anyone actually measured the rear axles to determine if there is a difference. My dealer looked up the part # for my rear axle and it is the same as a SRW they had on the lot? Is this just hearsay that they are longer? I would like to get actual measurements.

If you looking to convert to a dually, then I can help... I'm looking to go the other way.... I don't need six wheels anymore........
