Does your 2005 Diesel 3500 Lwb quad cab Drone at 1700 rpm while in overdrive lockup?I am having alot of trouble getting a bad drone fixed by Dodge .They are trying to tell me it is a characteristic of these model trucks.Service manager says he took two 06 s out and that they droned.I have askesd everyone i know with these trucks and none of them have this problem. So far they have replaced driveshafts, engine mounts, tranny mounts and stuck 4:10 ,gears in none of this has worked. Please help me with this poll.Thanx
Ever find a fix for this? Mine did not do it new, but is getting worse and worse while towing (8600 lbs) up milder hills, right @ 1900 RPM (which of course if a perfect cruise speed, about 68 MPH). Over 2100 RPM and it goes away. Dealer says they all do it, but my buddies short bed makes no noise at all.
been doing it for as long as i can remember. right at 1900rpm. any slower or faster and it's gone. as best i can figure it is rpm based. i changed to a taller tire and lowered my rpms at cruise and it still hums at 1900 rpm. i tried changing exhaust mounting locations to isolate it better from the truck but no luck. doesn't seem to be engine though because then it would do it no matter the gear so, maybe something to do from tranny down.
Both my 06 in my sig and my 07 make this noise. My 07 which is completely stock does it. Are you guys running the stock exhaust? My 06 and 07 have stock exhaust, the 06 has no muffler. I think it is some kind of resonation in the exhaust system. Mine will only do it under a decent load like towing up hill on the highway. If i drive the same hill with no load and hold my speed up the hill it doesnt make the noise. Maybe someone with an aftermarket exhaust setup can chime in...
the only mods to my truck so far are in my sig. nothing big until the warranty runs out...I did move a mounting location for the exhaust, relocated a hanger that is located near the tranny but it didn't help. I don't know what it is...I have just adjusted my driving to stay out of that area of rpms that cause it. Small price to pay as far as I'm concerned. This truck so far has been perfect (of course I just jinxed myself).
1900 rpm
wow, I have a shortbed, and have the drone sound pulling my travel trailer. Its around 1800-1900 RPM. somewhere in that range.
I was not paying any attention to it, last weekend on the way home from camping and the wife asked me if I heard something sort of like a drumming when pulling lightly. up steeper hills on the interstate or drifting, no drone. Didn't sound like metal hitting metal or grinding, so I told her it was normal.
Not there when not towing. interesting. I wouldn't give this truck up, or want my Gas truck back, thats for sure !

Whew...... I was worried it was only my truck!!! Same story, but I was thinking it was coming from the jake brake flap in the exhaust bend. It's kind of funny because my 2001 H.O. was so loud I couldn't hear anything but motor. Now with 2007 being much quieter I get to hear everything else working.
