drivetrain vibration??
drivetrain vibration??
bought my truck with 38k got 46k now but did notice a slight vibration when I bought it in the column and could feel it on the pedal nothing like the 06 I drive at work, have looked at my joints didnt seem to be a problem, did notice I will be needing to get my front end pinion seal replaced but for now ill just keep a check on the fluid. cant really pick out exactly what it would be its not making any noise atleast none i can hear over the 5" exhaust, have been feeling around for it while driving where its most noticeable mainly around the 60-65 range under real light throttle, there is no tranny shimmy or popping just a vibration i can feel in my wheel and in the pedals seems like its coming from the front end, any ideas or ways to rule certain parts out, I do feel it some also when coasting but then there is still transmission in that mix to, Im just looking for an idea and trying to make sure i dont end up on side of the road about to haul enclosed trailer 6k down to florida for work just trying to make sure i cover all the basis and not missing something
also which u joints are recommended I cant seem to find much clarity on which to go with I have always used spicer in my old jeep and scout but not sure which to go with on a 3/4 ton serviceable or not I would think serviceable would be better but then the seal wouldnt be as good because it has to push the old grease out somewhere, any suggestions
If its a rumble type of noise, one of the rear U joints is usually the culprit. One of mine went out at 35000, its rumble was most noticeable at 70mph+ with very slight load. There have been some tips posted here on how to check them, just don't recall the details off hand.
Rednax, so you did use AAM U-Joints again? Still satisfied with that choice? How was the balancing on your driveshaft....was it close or did it need balancing? Im in need of u-joints soon and I believe that the DS needs to be checked also for balance. Thanks!

i had a vibe at those same speeds, i just did mine with spicer 1410 non serv. joints and a new carrier bearing. make sure u paint mark the shaft and splines as to reaign the shaft the same as it comes out or u will need to have it rebalanced. ps. vibe gone.
jetfuel, thats what Ive heard too. I have an early bronco that I did some research on the front axle u-joints and they did tell me the serviceable ones are weaker. Spicer still the way to go though? I know on the 1/2 ton stuff there are a lot of choices but some are just WAY too expensive.
I just had my rear ujoint replaced in the last couple weeks. I was having a really hard time figuring out what end the vibration was coming from-front or back.
I pulled into an old parking lot that was covered in ice-and let er rip. I found that doing a ice burnout was a really easy way of distinguishing between the front end and back..
After I determined that-i put the truck on jack stands and put it in drive to watch the driveshaft-and verified it with a pry bar. The u joints were too tight to move by hand-but a prybar made it clear as day.
