Doesn't like to go into gear, automatic trans.

I put in a newly upgraded tranny from a local shop about 5,000 miles ago, supposedly a complete rebuild and upgrade with new bigger torque converter and everything. so that brings me to this, the other day the selector light just wouldn't select 2 or 1, the came up around P R N D, but not 2 or 1. Now when I go to take it out of park, every few times, It won't go into gear on the first try and I have to try 2 or 3 times. Which consists of completely letting off the brake, re pushing it in and then trying to select a gear. The light still selects all gears but 2 or 1. this problem is getting more frequent. The tranny has been acting fine, I always monitor the temp and even have another aftermarket cooler on it. Even pulling my backhoe it never got over 210 dg and shifts great. any suggestions?

Maybe the rooster comb on the valve body is bent. There is a arm on it that pushes the switch sensor in and out to tell the truck what gear you are selecting.

Shift linkage is fubar.
Why not just take it back to the builder?

Is it hard to get out of park sometimes?

I had the local transmission shop replace my the rooster comb last year. It started out as being hard to get out of park and over time it got worse. Then I couldn't shift it into 1 and within a couple of days I could't shift it into 2...

It wasn't very expensive to fix.

Thanks guys. So is this prob a warranty deal ? And is there a way I could check that rooster comb? I think that what it is too, because yesterday it went in to select 2 then popped back over to drive.

You will have to drop the pan and look at it.
