Does smoke mean anything?

Does smoke mean anything?

I'm not sure when it started but I noticed the other day that when I floor the go pedal, I'm getting smoke. It's mostly white with some gray mixed in. It doesn't smoke when I start it, only when I stomp on the pedal.

Is this something I should be worried about? Could it mean that I just need to run some additives to possible clean out some carbon buildup or maybe hook up 10K lbs and just pull it hard to clean the motor out some? It's not a lift pump or something is it?

BTW, if I come to a stop light and sit for a min or so, I get a nasty smell of which I think is diesel, maybe oil.

Thanks!

You know, I'd have to find my old order sheet, but the importing things are it's a Cummins HO (Not 600) with the 48RE. The rest is stuff like tow package, Plow package and what not.

OK - don't see too many factory build codes on the 'net these days!

It's normal for you to get 'smoke' out of it like you describe. I think the exhaust system builds up some soot in it and it doesn't blow out until you play with it a little.

smoke is NOT a bad thing. In fact, make her smoke as much as possible.

That's not what the Surgeon General's been saying for decades.

Other then that, thanks for the info folks and if the weather is half decent, I'm going to hitch up the boat and take it for a tow to Va to fish the CBBT. Maybe pulling 12K lbs will help clean it up some.

BTW, wish me luck on the weather and the fish!

I would say dark gray(ish) to black smoke is normal, any other colors (other than at start up) I would wonder why...................

Guys, because of the smoke, I added some Startron to my diesel fuel. After running the tank down about half, I check to see if the smoke was gone or what. Well, no more smoke. I can't believe this Startron cleaned whatever gunk that was smoking out.

BTW, if your wondering about Startron, I started using it in my boat because of the E10 gas. E10 has been causing havoc to many a boater but for people like myself that have been using Startron or people that started using it after they were affected by E10, have not been having any problems.

Oh, almost forgot.... The reason I put Startron into my diesel fuel was because I use Startron for diesel in my boat with has a gas motor. Reason I was using the diesel version was because I found out that the diesel version was identical to their gas version except it was twice the concentration, allowing me to use half the recommanded dosage.

Here's something now that's a little odd to me. I'm now using 2 products for my boat in my Dodge. TCW3 as a lubricate and Startron as a cleaner/stablizer.

Have you checked your fluids yet? Coolant should look clean (prob red but may be green) and your oil should not be overfilled and smelling like diesel. Look under your truck and see if you have blown oil out and all over the underside. I hope not, good luck.
