I am interested in buying a newer Cummins (very hesitant to sell my 12 valve) with a 6 spd. tranny. I hear to stay away from the Getrag, and they supposedly had both the NV5600 and the Getrag in them. The dealer told me that the code on the build sheet is DEE but couldn't decipher which tranny it is . Anyone know?

 

Depending on when it was built the 05's will have the NV5600 or the G56 manual transmission. The DEE was the desgination for the NV5600 but that maybe a heavy duty designation rather than a trans type. If the truck was built before 01/05 it most likely has the NV5600 but there may be some date slips there. The easiest way is to look at the shift pattern to tell which trans it has. Compare it to a newer/older one if it is available.

FWIW, the G56 is NOT a Getrag transmission. It is a Mercedes design built by whoever gets the bid. Most are coming out of Brazil now and are built by and consortium of companies that have a fair amount of experience in medium duty transmissions. Blumenthals has had a a G56 apart and they are cautiously optimistic about it. The dual mass flywheel is where the problms are and South Bend has a soultion for that.

Got to the menu bar directly above the first post in the thread. On the left side is an option called "USER CP". Select it then select EDIT SIGNATURE from the left hand menu.
