does the 48RE in the 07 5.9 have a lock up converter?
I haven't drove my friends yet but if it does then when the converter locks up you should be able to press the accelerator pedal and it should feel like a stick shift. The RPMs should not move up . They should kinda stay the same and the engine will kinda hold the tone that it is at until the speed starts to go up and then the RPMs will slowly move up.

I'm pretty sure it does. Mine sure feels like it locks up when it shifts to fourth. It is a pretty noticable shift when it goes into fourth and if you press on the accelerator like it was said before it will slowly climb in rpm's. If I'm slowing down from cruising speeds my tachometer doesn't just drop off to idle, it slowly goes down to around 1200 rpm's then it will unlock. That's how I know if it's locked, the engine will act like a brake; just like a manual trans does.

Yea I just got done driving my buddy's new truck and let me first say what an impressive truck it was.
The tranny locked from 2nd gear and up when I put it in TOW HAUL mode. Also when I let off the pedal it held the RPM like said before and acted like a tranny brake. It ran and felt like a ALLISON tranny. The fords with the 6.0 and TORQUE SHIFT dont lock up the tranny and they suck in my opinion. We have a 05 F-550 on the farm and I dont like how the tranny runs in that thing at all.
It always feels like the engine can not put the power to the ground properly. It seems like the tranny is always slipping.
Well that was just my $.02 in the tranny lockup question.

Holy confusion Batman!

The '06+ is capable of locking up in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. It will only lock up in 4th when in "D". When in T/H mode it will lock in 3rd and 4th. As HOV said above, it will only lock up in 2nd if you have the manual shifter in 2nd gear.

I thought the 07 was not available with a 48RE. It has a 6 spd Aison instead. I also thought 06 had a 68RE. Don't know anything about the 68RE but was told it was nothing like the 48RE which is a 727 with overdrive.

That makes sense, I'll have to give that a try!
