I've got 112000 now and have had no major failures since I bought the truck at 65000. As far as I know it is on stock injectors, CP3, ect. If you think a chevy will be better give it a try.

All the parts you listed are normal wear and tear items that they design to break down at a certain period usually, after your warranty. The Cummins motor itself will last forever compared to the other two companys.

That's what I was going to say- everything has a service life. If you don't like it then upgrade every 3 years/36,000 miles to stay in warranty (7/70 for me ). The DuraTaxi and the PoSD wear items aren't going to last any longer, in many cases they are the same parts that Dodge uses.

heck i have 40k miles on mine and my tranny is gone but heck i knew that with my programmers and the way i drive. i also knew that the lift pumps seemed to have a pretty high failure rate so i upgraded. other than that not a single problem. i drive hard and pull my 26 foot enclosed cabin boat on the weekends along with hauling for work during the week. trust me my bump stops get a work out and the engine has never had a problem.

Do you have any idea how it was treated and maintained for the first 90,000 miles you didn't own it?

I've got 125,000 on my 99 and I am told that I've been rather hard on it since I bought it new. It's a daily driver, tows our 30' 10k 5er, and gets run at the dragstrip every chance I get, not to mention I love to romp on it smokin tires and listening to the Cummins sing at least once a week. The truck was flawless until I started adding the HP (EZ=$300 & DD2 injectors=$350), at which time I decided to upgrade the tranny ($800) to avoid any problems with that. The factory lift pump was replaced at 65k under warranty. The first mods I did on the truck were to put gauges in it to monitor all the vitals. Fluids and filters get changed like they should. I'm happy,,,, RATTLIN is happy,,,,, and it just gets better as the miles add up!

Like others have mentioned, "Every brand is going to have problems" and some individual trucks are just going to be problematic. A lot has to do with how they are taken care of.

Good luck and I hope the next truck you get makes ya happy.

My d-max is in the shop RIGHT NOW with 99,000 miles on it and the engine is culled out. Not the first one of these D-maxes we've had fail with 60,000 to 100,000 miles... My last Cummins had almost 350,000 on it when I got rid of it back in 2000. The truck is still a daily driver for its present owner today.. I see it on the road all the time. That truck was worked VERY hard and abused for atleast the first 350,000miles with no failures other than one transmission rebuild due to me turning up the injection pump and pulling stock trailers.

I am having all kinds of problems with my 06 right now. The tranny isnt going to cut it. As soon as I can I will be back in a 6 speed. I just got a bad one this time and I plan on getting back in a Dodge.

Watch it whipper snapper! I'm that old old fart you are talking about.

215K miles, original VP-44, runs better today than when I bought it.
