Do Not Buy a Dodge Cummins

I have to vent here. What is up with these trucks anymore? 100,000 miles and they are shot. Oh sure there is an ocasional old fart that gets 200,000 miles. This one of mine is nickle and diming me. Injectors, wheelbearings, power steering pump, tranny, ball joints, lift pumps. I have had it.Out of all my buddies only 2 of us have Dodges and we have always got something wrong with our trucks. The guys I know with D-Max's have been flawless. No it hasent been the bully dog cause I only ran it for 10,000 miles. If I can get a good deal saterday Dmax here I come...Any one want to buy a truck?

trust me when I say this, you should play the lottery.

This is not the norm. by far. I have had 3 Dodge Cummins trucks, all used, all ran great! No big problems, just your usual once every blue moon problem...but thats it. 99.9% of the guys on this site will say the same too.

My truck has 151,000 miles on it, and is moderatly modded. Most powerful vehicle I have ever owned, fastest vehicle I have ever owned, most reliable vehicle I have ever owned. It runs great. My last dodge had 271,000 miles on it....ran perfect.

Exactly.

You cant expect to ream the edited by admin out of a truck and expect nothing to break. Go ahead and buy the Duramax/Powerstroke, but youll be making the same post in less time, and be more angry at how much more it takes to fix the new truck

All the manufacturer have issues with their trucks. My brother and my dad's Dmax has had issues as well so they aren't prefect. Any diesel truck prior to 98 thats has stick will out live any newer truck period (excluding rust). All the electronics stuff has killed off any reliablity and durablity that these engines are know for. Now mix in buying a diesel truck that marginally gets better fuel mileage than a gaser. The cost of fuel isn't that big of a spread to justify the extra cost of all the extra maintenance and original purchase cost. Most dealers will not provide the same level of warranty as a gaser as everyone has but a 'chip' or mega power program. I'm still bitter at Dodge over my warranty, they should just sell a truck with and without a warranty. Don't get me wrong I love the extra power and pulling ablity that the diesel provides us but at the end of the day 95% of the trucks bought today are just daily grocery getters. The heaviest load that they typically carry are the driver that sit in traffic to and from work. I still luv killing sports cars with my old stinky diesel truck.

Everything you mentioned that went wrong, were things that have the most use put on them. Any truck would have those problems if it were driven daily. 100K out of those components with a performance box sounds like a deal.

Sorry for your frustration. When a vehicle is costing you every time you turn around, it's hard not to go sour. Trust that all of the big 3 have their issues and the Dodge Trucks seem to have the least. (It's a good thing too considering how "challenged" many of the service departments are anyway -- but that's for another thread . In your case, it seems you've had some bad (and somewhat expensive) luck. Good luck with whatever you decide to do. I'd still buy another Dodge.

Keep it stock and they are fine. Not a single problem with mine so far, I guess time will tell. By far the most problems I see on this forum are with modified trucks. Otherwise it's lift pumps and U-joints, no big deal.

I'd rather push my dodge than drive any other brand!!! I have 75000 on the combo of both my truck and only thing went wrong was 3 injectors, dodge replaced them and ball joints..

So far so good and I figure with truck and trailer I am rolling 20000 lbs every day!!!
