Question Do I have SO or HO on my '03?

I recently bought an 03 and have been trying to figure out whether it is an SO or HO. I looked for the sticker on the valve cover, but it is not there. How else can I tell what equipment I have?

TIA

has the valve cover been painted? the sticker shouldn't of been removed. You looked at the drivers side? Another way to tell is in the glove box. The tranny code I believe something like DG8 is 48re, hopefully someone will confirm the exact code, I sold my 03. The HO had the 48re in it. However, some SO motors came with the 48re also, but those were the trucks built after 1-1-03. Hopefully something here has helped...

Early build SO engines didn't have the sticker. They still utilized the data tag up near the timing cover.

...and I have never seen an SO with a 48re.

I know for a fact they had the 48re in the SO motors. Jan. 1st 2003, they scrapped the 47re all together and the 48re was put in all trucks, SO and HO. My 03 was SO and it had the 48re. Others here had the same deal

You should fill out your sig. Is it an auto or a stick?

Six speed = HO, 5 speed = SO.

Catalytic converter = California SO version, 235hp.

Auto trans - Build date before 3/03 = 47re, 3/03 and later likely 48re

No cat, no build date, automatic = either 305hp HO or 250hp SO.

It is an auto, build date of 11/02, no cat, trans code of DGB.

So, I guess I am still confused. Based on the code of DGB I should have the 48re, but my build date is very early. And I still have no idea of whether I have an SO or HO. The valve cover has not been painted, but there is no sticker on it that would indicate any of the above.

Because of that early date with an auto... you'll have an SO. Get a smarty and you'll then have an HO!

I think you can take your VIN # to a dealership and they can tell you what you have...

Look at the 8th digit in your'e VIN number. If it is a "6", then you have the Standard Output. If the 8th digit is a "C", then it is the High Output.

Odds are you have the 250hp/47RE Auto.

its fun to try and piece it all together with the info you get from this site. but the easiest way is to call a dealer and read them the vin. as far as never seeing an 03 SO with a 48re, they exist, I have one (and it is confirmed with the dealer too).
