It does look blue from heat, but I think it's just oil residue. It comes off with chrome polish and at 15K miles mine happens every time I change the oil. As soon as I change the oil it comes back bad for about a week. Dieseljerk, just do like the rest of us, wash that thing every day and don't worry too much about it.

I agree, it seems that the exhaust is so hot that it's turning bumper blue. Affraid of lean condition at extreem highway speeds. What do you think? Thanks for all responses.

I could probably slide it out a bit and tack weld it, but what soot still gets on there washes off so easily I haven't bothered.
I second this solution to the exhaust on the bumper problem. The Meg exhaust tip extends the exhaust outlet further from the vehicle reducing the exhaust that hits the bumper. The real benefits are the Meg tip is stainless steel and it looks great!

In any case, whatever exhaust residue that gets on the bumper seems to cleanoff very easily. It may appear "blue" but it is not the same as the bluing from heat that you often see on motorcycle exhaust pipes.

I bought a stainless gibson 4" turndown. The problem was solved completely. No soot whatsoever. Checkout my gallery. A local shop trimmed and welded it on.
