Difficult starting, clanking noise
Difficult starting, clanking noise
Hello,
I have learned a ton from this great website, and would now like to contribute myself.
I have a 2006 with low miles (it is my "Rolls Royce", not a "truck").
For 2 months now, off and on, I had occasional problems like this: the truck was hard to start and then would idle making a clanking noise. I would then turn it off, restart, and usually it would work "fine" but wit the check engine light on, which would go away in a few days, or even with the next "bad" start.
I thought this: an injector went bad, or got "dirty", or perhaps the fuel pump was getting worse.
Called injection specialist; the diagnostics alone would be $150. That did not sound good, so I decided to try a cleaning additive; found PS Diesel Kleen in grey bottle, $ 7 in WalMart.
Added 10 quarts (sorry, not quarts but much smaller units. about a fourth of the bottle) to about 12 gallons of fuel in the tank, and the starting problem seems to have disappeared. No starting problems (well, I have my fingers crossed as the American ladies say).
I am in general against all the additives and am not trying to sell or advertise anything, just sharing my experience with all you great guys here.
