Tuning difference between 03 and 04 for increased power?

How is the additional power made in 2004-05?
Do they have a larger turbo?
Will that turbo work on my 03?

04.5+ trucks had different injector nozzles, run slightly higher rail pressure from the factory, have a third injection event and a slightly larger turbo in the He351 but yes you can retro fit the turbo to a 03-04.

So the HO option of 305 HP could be done by tuning on my 03?

Oh yeah you can easily get that and more with just a smarty. One thing to watch on the 03-04.5 are the crappy canister (engine) mounted lift pumps. Not too many left but they are barely good enough for stock fueling much less anymore.

Ordered my gauges last night to replace the Autometer RICER gauges in the truck now. FASS is next, getting same unit I have on my 01' then the PacBrake with 2.5 gallon tank.

You must have a SO, if so, a Smarty will bring you current to a HO status and then put you on par with a HO's power gains. In other words, your truck becomes a HO.

I think people should stop scaring others into buying an aftermarket LP just because they have the filter mounted unit. I still have one and it holds good pressure even if I turn my VA box on high. I even had a Predator downloader stacked with it on my truck for a while and pressure was still just fine. Sure, if you are building a 500+hp truck then you need more but for a stock or mildly modified truck like mine you really don't need a better LP. I just keep a spare LP in my toolbox. Remember, the stock canister mounted LP is very easy to change if it craps out on you. You cannot say the same for any of the others...
Get yourself a fuel pressure gauge.

Off Rant!!!!!!!

^^^ No offense dodgezilla but it obviously has you worried enough to have a spare....

Its known that the 03-04 pumps, while some may be fine, are not known to be reliable, so Dodge made a retrofit kit with an "intank" pump.

Don't have nothing to do with scaring ppl, its just shedding light on a more reliable setup. I know i wouldn't wanna be stranded on the side of a road for a lift pump, there are too many variabes to take its place.

My Smarty would run the rail dry with the retrofit intank lift pump. The stock was fine for stock, and lasted 128,000 miles. I'm probably only running 450 HP max.

In Power gains I agree but your SO does not become a HO it does not have cooling jets under the pistons and several other mechanical differences between the HO and SO. The 03 and 04 had 555 ft lbs on the HO and 305HP and the 04 1/2 had 600 ft. Lbs. and 325 hp The SO in 03 had 250HP and I can't remember the spec for the torque. The 04 1/2 also had a 4" exhaust system from Turbo back and the 03-04 had a 3 1/2 from the turbo to the muffler and 4" from the muffler back.

rip 112, what will you do if your aftermarket pump fails? You will be calling a tow truck, of course. If mine fails I'll be back on the road in a half hour...

Listen, all I'm saying is that not everybody "Needs" an aftermarket LP even though some of you guys keep telling them they do. My 07 put down 452hp with a stock in-tank pump and it was holding pressure fine...

Just a couple of things I remember from seeing a cutaway of an HO... The HO has the ADDITIONAL oil nozzles. The SO still has the piston oiling like the previous CTDs. The HO has a crankcase girdle for strength and quieting and I heard they deleted that after the HOs to save $$. The SO should still be able to make PLENTY of power. The stock turbo and muffler are choked bad. I had to do more than I expected to my HO to make it run as good as my 97 modded 215hp 12v. Craig
