The gaskets on the diffs are reusable. No need for RTV.

hey just a tip clean around the gasket (especially the top) very well before you pull the cover so you don't get any dust/sand in the diff! I usually go over it with a wire brush, then spray it off w/ brakes part cleaner then finish it off with the air gun. don't ask me how i know how bad it sucks to knock sand into the carrier....

oh yah and be careful not to over tighten cover bolts when putting it back together because they are prone to snapping off, i think torque spec on those it only 27ft/lbs.

Not steal your thread, but...

I'm going to be doing my second drain and fill on the diffs and am looking for advice on inexpensive (bulk) synthetic gear oil. As an example, even Supertech is $11/qt, so that's like $80 or so for the change. Is there a less expensive source where you can buy by the gallon instead?

(please spare me the "you get what you pay for" lecture, what I really want is where can I buy gear oil cheaper in-bulk? I've checked the auto parts stores and haven't come up with anything)

Bowser50,

I have changed my Diff's twice. Careful when removing covers and the gaskets are good to go. I will probably change the gaskets on the third go around just in case they are starting to crack or weather
