Diesel oil and new 2007 EPA rules???

Went to pick up 3 gallons of Premium Blue Extreme to change the oil in my truck. Guy at the auto parts counter says he can have it for me this afternoon, but its $26 a Gallon I asked why it went up so high and he starts to tell me that it has to meet some new standards from the EPA for 2007. Then shows me stickers that he had to apply to all his oil/diesel stock showing wether or not it was 2007 compliant. I hope this is not a sign of things to come. Any body heard this???

Yes, I know I can run cheaper oils, But I like the blue extreme...So lets not start that debate

The Extreme is syn...

The new fuel should be better for the oil, getting fewer contaminants in it. Not sure what the parts guy was talking about, I have not heard about any change to the oil.

The price sounds pretty high - its a Group III isn't it? I've seen the reference to 2007 vehicles on some bottles of oil, but are you saying that the parts guy jacked up the price on the old oil by merely placing a new sticker on old stock?

In any event, since your truck isn't an '07 there is no requirement to run that oil while/if older stuff is in stock.

Nonetheless, maybe this is a good time to go and stock up on some oil.

Premium blue Exteme is a synthetic by name only, not a true synthetic and people who do not know which oils are true synthetics and the ones that are just named synthetic are being ripped off with high prices.

The new oil for 2007 diesel engines is low-ash, to help the new emissions equipment last longer - it's supposed to be 10-15% more $ than normal oil.

Bluebull, why do you think it is not a true synthetic? If you know something special, please share it with the rest of the class

Like I said, its a Group III syn oil - its not a true synthetic oil, there's dino in there with it; the "real deal" syn oil are Group IV's. Do a search here on it - lots of threads. The Group IV's include Redline, some Amsoils, Mobil1, and more.....
