Did the fuel tank vent mod

I love it....ran my first full tank not towing...filled up at the house, drove to NC on sunday...came back last night...She took 43 gallons!!! That was just pumping till it cut off...then one more click and fuel ran out. Only got 16 mpg though....too much short trip in town driving up in NC.

Just wanted to share that with yall...soooo much better than the 33-34 i used to always put in...definitely one of the best mods i have done

How long did it take you? What was the final cost?

took about 2 hours including cleaning the fuel screen...of course i only had to drop the rear portion of the tank....becaue there was plenty of room to work with my flatbed. I had all the tools so the cost was 60 or 70 bucks from GDP

Awesome! I know I love mine. I think it is great to have one or 2 clicks and see fuel in the filler neck

You're not up to speed on the take vent mod. You have about 5 gallons of unused space in the tank until you move the vent to the top.

3rd gen tanks have a huge "hump" in the top of the tank at the back for expansion. By very slowing filling the tank you can fill this hump and get almost 45gals in. By doing the vent mod you can more quickly fill the hump.

Just don't fill it to capacity and then park in the sun or a heated garage or the fuel will expand and spill out.

Did mine a few years ago and have never been able to get more then 37 gallons in, maybe it depends on how far back on the hump you put the vent.

Dodge uses the same fuel tank for gas and diesel trucks. Gasoline needs the extra room for expansion due to it's higher vapor pressure. Diesel fuel does not need as much room for expansion. Hence, with the vent kit, we are able to use nearly all available space in the tank for fuel, instead of air.

I've gotten 38 in it once before. However, you have to remember that when your gauge shows empty you still have at least a couple of gallons in the tank. Most report that with the overhead reading "0" DTE, they still found several (up to 5 IIRC) when they dropped their tanks to do this mod.

on my way home the overhead went from 50 to 30 real quick...then it went to low fuel and i went about 10 miles....then filled up. I put the vent towards the front of the hump?

The most that I have put in mine is 40 gal. I think that running it that far to put 40 gal or more is not a real good idea. Just my $.02 worth.
