Diagnosing a bad fuel pump... (03 Ram 5.9L)
1) Fuel pressure reading zero.(erratic pressure prior to failure)
2) CODE 0628 (FUEL PUMP VOLTAGE LOW)
3) Frequent hard or longer than usual starting.
4) Engine idles relatively fine once started.
5) Truck stalls when driven a few blocks, or within a few miles.
6) After every stall, engine can be restarted by turning over ignition while pushing accelerator to the floor.
7) New fuel filter doesn't solve the problem.
Discovered a dead CARTER / FEDERAL MOGUL Lift Pump. Looks like its gonna be a few weeks for the warranty replacement pump to arrive from autopartswarehouse -( WTB ad removed.)

I would not go with a stocker... get a canister delete and run an aftermarket pump, or get an AD or FASS and bypass the stock canister. If you live where it's cold, I would not bypass the stock pump. If you get an AD100, you can use the existing lines without dropping the tank.

All good advice but I think I'm gonna go with the carter LP since its being replaced under warranty. If I can find another used carter as a spare/backup, I'll have saved quite a bit of money. I don't really mind changing the pumps since its quite easy and I always carry the necessary tools in the truck. Someday, when I have a spare $400+ lying around, I'll step up to a more durable pump for sure... the belt driven pumps look promising imho
