Developed a noise

I've developed a noise that seems to be coming from the rear of the truck. I would describe it as a low pitched whine. I notice it mostly at low speeds and it seems to stop if I lift my foot off the throttle. Along with this I have what I would describe as a very noticable grinding or rubbing noise that occurs just before the truck comes to a stop (like at a stop sign, etc.) and again sounds like it's coming from the rear. I have no indication of any shifting problems, overheating, engine problems, loss of power or anything else. Just the confounded noise. Could it be the rear end, the fuel pump, lift pump, what else?? Both these noises seem to have started at the same time. Could they be related or just coincindence.

could be the rear diff. or maybe the pinion bearing

when you take your foot off the gas you unload the pinion whines goes away.

check the u joints first they are a lot easier to fix
