The '03 takes more turning over than my '01 to bust off. My truck hits with one revolution of the crank but my wife's '03 seems like it might take 5-10 revolutions. Sound like an issue?

how old are the batteries? and have you been cranking it after a long period of time? cold weather can be apart of it, if it has been sitting around for a while. also might want to check fuel lines. even a small pin hole leak can cause a long crank, also a fuel filter is a good thing to check too. it can be many things on a diesel

 

New Interstate batteries and it spins it pretty fast (sounds like a PSD turning over). Like I said, normally 5-10 revolutions to get her to fire but I'll definately check out the lines. I was mainly concerned about inj issues but it doesn't smoke so I guess I don't have to worry about that. Might just be the nature of the beast and it won't hit like a VP truck does.

 

My 04 usually takes a couple revolutions to start, my 91 fired off almost instantly. I believe I was told that the common rails take a second or two longer because they have to build up enough rail pressure to fire off the injectors. The cat c15 in the kenworth I drive at work takes a second or two of cranking to fire up and it only has 40K.

 

Did you check the recent videos on this page? Pretty normal start time. How does yours compare to that?

cr seems to take a little longer then the others yours seems normal if it takes like6 seconds or longer then i would say hard to start

 

Some mornings getting out of bed I experience a hard start.

 

had same issue with my 04.5. dealer found 3 loose injecters. they re-torqued
them and all was good. this was @25k. now @ 124k. i know the torque spec
was alot lower than i would have thought. if i remember right some where
around 25-36 ftlbs. but i would verify if your doing your own work.
