Death Wooble.. Help Please!
Happened to me again over the weekend.....feels exactly like the front axle is cycling in an osicalation. Felt like I was in my buddies prerunner hitting a bad washboard @50-pretty violent.
Speeding up didn`t get rid of it either, I had to slow almost to a stop-from 65. I have a leveling kit with rancho`s, I`m sure that & being out of alignment is contributing to this. Can`t really see how a steering stabilizer would make a difference. Shouldn`t the swaybar provide resistance from the death wobble? School me-need this fixed.
Seems to be a common problem with the coil/solid axle set-up.

Here is info to think about. I had a bone stock truck with the DW. I took it to the dealer and they said the steering stablizer was bad. They replaced it and never had the death wobble again, and by the way I could reproduce the DW on certain road consistantly before I took it in. Since that truck was stolen, I bought a new one. When I put my leveling kit on this one I put RS9000's all around and a dual stablizer with 315's. I have had no DW issues with this setup.
I have had DW for a while now and just got the front end redone yesterday, and it is GONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thruen has said it the best, DW occurs because of worn parts and alignment. My truck had loose ball jonts and a bad alignment, truck has 85,000 miles and this is the first alignment. No matter what the specs are for the ball joints they should not have play. If you have any movement in the ball joints and you have DW you need new ball joints. That Cummins weights a lot and with just slightly worn joints the weight is going to cause DW.

AWESOME information guys
So:
-alignment
-worn parts (ball joints, shocks, trackbar, steering stabilizer.......any others?)
-mismatched parts-mostly coil/shock combinations, or steering stabilizers
Please add to the list accordingly.
Anyone elses steering box leaking too?
just got off the thuren site, looks like I`ll be ordering the trackbar & stabilizer.
Really like to find the right stuff the first time-hate wasting time & money-THX!
Anyone using the HD highsteer set-up? Looks VERY beefy, stock looks pathetic
comparabled to thuren`s HD.
Once I get the wobble fixed I`m smarty bound
.

Good investment with the track bar and stabilizer. Both are way better than the stock garbage.
There are several people running Don's steering setup with great success. If my stock steering ever gives me problems I'll be running it too.

I thought it was bizarre-so I`ll share:
called carli to see what they have for the DW issue. The guy FLATOUT told me that is the tires-specifically BFG`s on dodge diesels. He said the the load rating of the tire is the issue, the sidewalls cause the bouncing.
Kinda wierd cuz he didn`t try to sell me anything....so he`s got nothing to gain. He said that he deals with this all day long with dodges.....and that the toyo`s should take care of it. My buddy has DW too, and he was toyos.
thoughts?

Some will argue against it, but I somewhat agree with Carli. I do believe the tires play a part, and for whatever reasons the BFG 315/70-17 AT KO seems to be a problem tire. That said, worn steering and suspension parts are major players, if not the "starting team" in the death wobble game, and shouldn't be overlooked.

Ball joints.. Shot at 500 miles with stock tires..
Second Issue : Bfg 315/17 AT/Ko's!! Took it in twice to dealer and they went through everything and couldn't find a thing wrong sooo. Bfg's came off... DW Gone.. I got the Thuren steering because I want his suspension on my truck but I'll have to do it one thing at a time!!!

Trucks are going to be different. My trucks first DW I thought I should replace the steering stab. I was wrong because it did nothing to help the problem.
Then I went and replace all the shocks RSX 9000's and no matter what setting DW was always ready to go off. So for me the steering stab. and the shocks did NOTHING at all.
Then I thought it might be the track bar, but that was tight. Ball joints were loose but not bad, so I started to look at the tires, and the front left was starting to wear funny. I remember what Thuren said that DW is more than just one bad part, it is a lot of parts that are worn giving play in the frontend and causing DW.
When I went to pick up my truck and talked to the mechanic he said that he could almost pull the lower ball joints apart by hand
He also said that the alignment was off, so FOR ME DW was ball joints and alignment. Guys check everything and if something is loose fix it.
