Death of my 06 Dodge 3500

I know I should post this on another thread, but I was in a not at fault accident last week and my truck was T-Boned by a small car that took out my lower parts and destroyed the tail end of truck. I am ok..Totaled by State Farm. Sad to say I am grieving over my truck and always just posted to this thread. Please excuse me for posting here. This is the thread I read and feel is home. My camper weights 13K and I have it in Fla full time and live 6 months in Fla and 6 in NC. I am looking at a smaller truck to someday get a 7K camper and run around in the mountains.(since I am retired and 63) I am looking at a 2015 ecoDiesel Pinastar. The Quad cab is rated at 76K. I may buy a new one first of next week. Can any of my old friends help me decide on this diesel engine made by Fiat Pinastar. 3.0 L. Please Mod leave my post here for a couple days. I want any friends to please advise me on any problems with the Pinastar Eco diesel. If the engine has problems please let me know. I hope this new truck will be the last one I ever buy. Just wanting help from the thread I call home.

Is the Eco Pinastar Fiat diesel worth my retirement investment?

Thankd Johnny

I'v been watching that truck kinda close lately. I like the idea for a lot of reasons.

Reliability has been a little spotty. Most trucks seem to be fine, but some are problematic. Seems that Fiat is having some troubles with the emissions equipment. Some trucks are so bad that there's a TSB to replace the heads.

If I was looking to buy a new truck, I might consider it. But I would certainly look at maintenance and service records first. And I'd probably get a long term warranty.

I'm watching them, because I'd like to buy a used '15 or '16 in 2 years. If I had to buy another truck right now, I'd probably get another Cummins, just so I wouldn't have to worry about it.

I'm not a fan of buying anything in it's first model year. I've had a couple I purchased used and they were a mess (Jeep Wrangler & Eagle Premier). I also remember the fiasco a friend had with a diesel Jeep Liberty. The dealer had to buy it back. I would prefer to give a year or two to prove the platform IMHO.

I also have a friend with a diesel Cherokee who has also had a problem.

The fuel economy is tempting, but I am also not sure if I would buy one until there is more of a track record.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your truck, but it sounds like there is a lot to be thankful for (neither you or your family were killed or badly hurt).
