Why dealer want 3K for lift pump 04-HO

Dealer said

"your high preasure pump has been previously replaced with another high preasure pump placed in the fuel tank"

I'm thinkin - does he mean the lift pump? it's not high preasure? It's like 5to13 lbs right? Whats he talkin about?

Then hesays

"Aint got nothin to do with the injecctor we replaced yesterday for $795.00
I'll costya another 3K bucks for a new pump."

If I could sell electric pumps for 3k bet ya now what business I would be in.

Had truck towed home. Orderd a FASS for like $350. But I probably need to double check there diagnosis?
Anyone presure tested an 04?

whare shoul I tie in.

Is there a plug for a guage

Any opinions?

Truck was missing took it to shop they replaced #5 injectorgot it back drove 2.5 miles and truck died?

Got injector back after paying core going to have it bench tested

How in gods name can these nuts ask for a little pump? 3K Son of a ____

Well its simple my brother works for dodge service departement and we have discovered that if the technician works on a vehicle under warranty he is paid by diamler chrystler a set amount say $19hr. But if the vehicle is not under warranty why the play the we cant do the work you had something on the vehicle is that if its not covered by warranty you pay their hrly wages which is nearly DOUBLE what they make from diamler. Thats b/s in my opinion but who knows. If you mention anything being covered by insurance say fuel contamination they will go crazy. My boss recently got bad fuel they quoted over 8k for entire fuel system change lift pump, cp3, and injectors. When they found out insurance was going to cover it they changed their tune to truck needs a whole new motor 23k for one granted it was the 6.7L still outrageous. We asked them to scope the motor and check each cylinder they refused so he sent it to another dealership for second opinion they scoped it and did all kinds of diagnostics. Turns out all it needed was a clean tank and filter and good clean #2 diesel and 1100 later truck is running fine and its been 3 months now. Goes to show you how big of scam artists they are.

3k sounds about right for the cp3 replacement and the lift pump replacement. But your not sure if they were doing the cp3 they just said lift pump?

I am dealing with some cp3 problems right now myself.I think the pump should be under the 100,000 mile cummins warranty on mine.I think the price they are charging for these pumps is rediculous.I could swallow the price better if it was a high performance pump but I would still whine.

just so you know, my 04.5 lift pump took a dive at 70k miles and while it was warrantied, replacing the lift pump with the one in the tank, PLUS LABOR was only around 800 dollars.

I was like What teh heck is going on with my computer, is it Wed?

But, 3K for a lift pump is way to much. I paid @ $350+ for a pump (a MUCH better one at that) and all related hardware (adapter, bypass valve, "T", hose, etc...)

No.It will run with out a lift pump but will not be able to pull through the restriction of a failed pump in most cases.

it may run through a bad lift pump at least idle and drive very slowly. I limped my 04 off the freeway and 1 block to P. Lot when my LP went out.
